Kelly Brooks Art

So, my good friend Kelly Brooks just let me know she has a new website. She's a fantastic artist and I definitely want people to know about her work. Please check her website at www.kelbrooks.net and you will see all her cool stuff. Here are some samples:

Small Screen Designs

I just saw this picture on a new blog I subscribe to, the Scoop:

So I went to the Small Screen Designs Etsy shop to check out some more and found some other great products. Here's one for Roller Derby fans (or just fans of skating):

And if you prefer your awesome designs on a t-shirt, you can get those there, too. I really like this cassettes one:

Adrian Tomine

I was pleasantly surprised to see Adrian Tomine on the cover of my new New Yorker that was supposed to arrive last week, but instead came today. To be quite honest, I didn't know who the artist was, but I recognized him from the cover of a little journal I picked up last Christmas. I'm not sure which JD Salinger book the girl is reading on this bus, but I'm going to say its Franny & Zooey.

I love that you can get this (and other New Yorker cartoons) made into personal notecards, although they're a little pricey at $40 to $50, but it could be worth it. You can also get it as a print for a whole lot more.

While I was searching for an image of the current New Yorker cover, I came across a past one, also by Adrian Tomine, that I really like, too.

What can I say, I'm a sucker for pictures of girls reading.

Creative Thursday

My sister-in-law introduced me to Creative Thursday's Etsy Shop today. I've been perusing her prints and love her style. Here are some of my favorites.

Brandon Bird

Someone posted this first painting, "No one wants to play Sega with Harrison Ford," on another site I read, and I couldn't stop thinking about it.

It's no longer available as a print, but you can get a blue poster version for $10 (plus shipping).

Also, check out some of the other art on his site. Here are some of my favorites:

And I realize it's a little early, but if you're looking for some unique valentines for next February, look no further.

Fear & Trembling

vladmaster.jpg

I am very curious about this. I found it while browsing through etsy. Here's the description from the site:

"Vladmasters are handmade viewmaster disks designed, photographed, and hand-assembled by Vladimir. They make use of toys, neglected household objects, and other ephemera to tell 28-picture stories. The Fear & Trembling Vladmaster set features four disks, a box to keep them in, and a mini-CD soundtrack.

Fear & Trembling is about a dinner party as seen from inside the head of someone who probably shouldn't have come. Escape is sought and perhaps found. The found-sound soundtrack is by Morgan Hobart and features a blip noise to cue the change from photo to photo."

Catia Chien Illustrations

A while ago, my brother had a comic included in an anthology called Put the Book Back on the Shelf, featuring 24 comics inspired by Belle & Sebastian songs. (You can get it from Amazon if you're interested.) I was flipping through it again tonight. Other than my brother, of course, my favorite contributor is Catia Chien. I wanted to see some more of her work, so I just visited her website. I really like these pieces, among others.

Scented Pencils

Remember those delicious-smelling markers you used to use as a kid? I loved those. Well, here's a more grown-up version. Scented pencils found at Jenni Bick Bookbinding.

Nebo Peklo

Here is Nebo Peklo, an artist who is right up my alley. I totally love this kind of art and have even attempted doing this style myself (I'm not so great at it). Anyway, looks like she uses pen, water color, and the Gocco (screen printing, love that Gocco!).

So refreshing! I love it! Also, thanks to Oh Joy for helping me to discover Nebo.
