Also at Design Public, this Flensted Butterfly mobile. I have the bunny mobile that I love so much. That butterfly one is so cute!

Clear Cut Press

Speaking of books, I'll just mention a book I'm reading at the moment, thanks to a friend. There's a darling little puplisher called Clear Cut Press that prints little paperback books. The book I'm reading is Frances Johnson (A Novel) by Stacey Levine. I'm only half way through, but it's a pretty fun story about a girl figuring out who she is. I haven't read any of the others, but I will say, I approve of their book covers (I really do judge books by their covers). They're fairly inexpensive too. From the About Us section on their site:

Clear Cut is inspired by early 20th-century subscription presses Hours Press and Contact Editions, and by the midcentury paperbacks of New Directions and City Lights

and

The books are pocket-sized and durable. They are printed in Tokyo by TOPPAN in a standard Japanese format with colorful dust jackets and built-in bookmarks.

Makes for awesome little books. Check them out!

The Bad Beginning

badbeginning.jpg

It's no secret Kylie and I are both fans of The Series of Unfortunate Events. We've read all the books, and I've even read the unauthorized autobiography. I like to see them sitting on my shelves. They're hard covers, with rugged edges and beautiful art work done by Brett Helquist. My older brother, Matt, who's an illustrator, was invited to speak at Utah Valley State College a couple months back, along with Mr. Helquist. He found out about a new, paperback edition of The Series of Unfortunate Events designed to look more like pulp or dime novels. I was skeptical about buying them. I mean, I already have all the books. But tonight Matt brought over The Bad Beginning, and I was sold. In addition to more art work, the back has hilarious advertisements, a serial short story that I'm dying to finish, and a comic with an intriguingly suspenseful ending. So far it looks like they've only reissued the first two books in the series, but at $6.99 on Amazon (or, according to Matt, $4.50 at Walmart), they are worth picking up.
